Lisa Snowdon in cheap slacks, dancing

In the course of putting together a soul, funk and disco set for tonight, I found this. I didn't even know I had it. I had clean forgotten which song it actually was. And tonight it will blast out of the speakers for a crowd of hundreds to enjoy.

A quick check back shows it wasn't ever a hit in the UK, and yet the M&S usage has given it an air of joyful familiarity now, to the extent that it's burrowing around the lower reaches of the current singles charts.

It's been a busy old week, so not much else to report. The weekend will be even busier!

I'm a soul man

This Friday, I make my debut as a specialist soul DJ. I have a five hour set to plan, and the agreed remit is classic soul, funk and disco from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

I have most of the bases covered - all the Motown and commercial disco I can shake a stick at, plus my 80s collection and some timely suggestions for 60s soul and 70s funk - but always want more, especially for 60s soul and any kind of non-disco 70s stuff. And there is always a danceable Motown gem missing from my collection.

What, from these selected genres, would prompt you to throw a shape or two? Your suggestions are both welcome and crucial! The CDs are burning as I type...

I've already got this...
